Above And Beyond The Computer Screen
Dear Reader,
Yesterday I earned redemption for slacking off on the challenge this week. Rather than sprawl out before my computer with a bag of Doritos to passively watch another 100 minutes of produced footage, I took things a step further. I went where no Mayterm Netflix Challenger has gone before: Dyersville, Iowa.

Hidden away in Dyersville is the Lansing farm, famous as the setting for The Field of Dreams, that classic movie about God and baseball.
Armand, Mich, and I left Wartburg around three in the afternoon. About three mix CDs and a riveting game of Twinkie (which is the Micah version of Yellow Car) later, I pulled Little Sally into the gravel parking lot of the Lansing farm, and we piled out to take a look. Here's what we saw:
Basically, it's a tiny souvenir post that looks like a concession stand, two sets of bleachers, the white house, and the baseball diamond. The owners are cool with visitors playing baseball on the field, and when Armand and Micah and I arrived, there was a wedding party deep into a very low-key game. Apparently the marriage is Saturday and the two families were celebrating today by...going to visit the Field of Dreams. How sweet.
The corn wasn't up yet, so that element of the movie magic was missing, but that's alright.
The point is, there we were. The Field of Dreams--every baseball fan's must-visit destination. Lush green grass, blue sky, white clouds, and hot summer air. It was idyllic. And I walked on the same grass that Kevin Costner did. I think that excuses my skipping a few movies this week.

According to a May 2010 ESPN Article, the Field of Dreams is up for sale! If you have $5.4 million sitting around gathering dust, here's a great investment. Go for it. I would consider it, but I've only got $5.3 mil, and I'm saving it for paying off my Wartburg tuition.
